Labor union: Govt will not be allowed to privatize WAPDA

MULTAN: The WAPDAHydro Electric Labor Union has held a protest demonstration against the proposed privatization of Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA). All the Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO) offices remained closed in the city during the protest demonstration.

The participants of the rally march towards Khanewal Road and staged a sit-in for more than two hours in the favour of their demands. The protesters of the WAPDA Hydro Electric Labor Union were chanting slogans against the privatization of WAPDA and had raised placards inscribed with the slogan ‘say no to privatization’.

Chairman Labor Union Ghulam Rasool Gujjar said they would not allow government at any cost to privatize WAPDA as it is one of the profitable departments of the Pakistan.  Millions of families are running their kitchens with their jobs associated with WAPDA so they would not allow and accept its privatization on the plan of IMF just for pleasing them to take more loans.

Leader Labor union Sajjad Ahmad Loch criticized the Engineer Association during the protest that there was no single representative attending their demonstration and it reflects that they are in favor of privatization.
