Appraisement-East writes to DC law branch about Rs 250m ZA Pharma tax evasion case

KARACHI: The Research and Development Section of Model Customs Collectorate MCC Appraisement-East has written a letter to Deputy Collector Law Branch regarding getting early dates from Sindh High Court into the hearing of Z A Pharma tax evasion case.

According to details, the R&D Section has detected a tax evasion case against the importer Z A Pharma few months ago and made the contravention report against the importer and sent it to the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-II for further legal proceedings.

The Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-II has issued show-cause notice against the importer Z A Pharma. On which, the importer moved to Sindh High Court and got stay order against the show-cause notice from the honorable Court.

The sources informed Customs Today that the R&D Section has recently written a letter to Deputy Collector Law Branch to get early hearing date from SHC into the case, so that the case could be decided soon. The sources further disclosed that the R&D authorities concerned would also contact with the Deputy Attorney General for getting the date of hearing into the case.

MCC Appraisement-East has made Contravention Report in the month of October-2014 against importer Z A Pharma on its alleged involvement in tax evasion of Rs25605608 in terms of Customs Duty, Sales Tax, Additional Sales Tax and Income Tax .

The R&D in its Contravention Report stated that the importer was deliberately taking inadmissible advantage of SRO567 (I)/2006 and 551(I)/2008 on import of pharmaceutical raw-material.

It further stated the importer Z A Pharma has attempted to evade Rs595407 in terms of Customs Duty; Rs19309523 in terms of Sales Tax; Rs4082099 in terms of AST and Rs1618579 in terms of Income Tax which makes the total of evaded amount tune to Rs25605608
