Indonesia DEA destroys illicit 860kg meth worth $170 million

JAKARTA: Indonesia’s drug enforcement agency has destroyed more than 860 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, which authorities say is the biggest drug haul in the country’s history.

The country’s national narcotics agency, BNN, paraded nine men at a waste incineration plant at Jakarta’s Soekarno Hatta airport.

They were accused of smuggling drugs allegedly hidden inside coffee bags.

BNN’s head of drug eradication said the 862-kilogram haul was worth about $200,000 per kilo – $170 million in total.
