EUROPE: According to a recent disclosure, a mission to a Jupiter moon, Europa, has been planned by the US space agency NASA – the National Aeronautics and Space Administration. The disclosure about the mission – which will chiefly observe whether the present conditions on Europa can support life – has come from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory engineer Bobak Ferdowsi.
According to scientists, Europa, the sixth-closest moon of the planet Jupiter, is covered with an icy layer which could have an ocean beneath it. The space agency thinks that Jupiter’s moon could be the best bet to search alien life in the solar system.
During an interview with CNBC on Friday at the Pioneers Festival tech show in Vienna, Ferdowsi said, “There are conditions, there is likely chemistry, there’s warmth. All the things that we think are necessary for life, it looks like they exist in Europa”.
The space agency has not revealed anything publically about the mission, but earlier this year the NASA project received funding of about $30 million from the White House. According to some scientists, NASA plan could get tricky. According to them, it will not be an easy task for the space agency to land anything on the surface of Europa because of the uncertainty over the conditions on the ice.
