KARACHI: The routine affairs of Model Customs Collectorate-MCC of Appraisement (West) are affected due to the vacant post of additional collector (Grade-19) at the Collectorate.

According to details, the FBR authorities, after the transfer of additional collector (ADC)-II Farrukh Sajjad from MCC-Appraisement (West) to the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR, Karachi, the previous month, had not yet assigned responsibilities to any other officer of the ADC level.

The Collectorate is currently working with four additional collectors, whereas the strength is to be completed with at least five ADCs, as the MCC-Appraisement (West) has bulk of consignments clearance as compare to the MCC-Appraisement (East).

Presently, Dr Iftikhar Ahmed posted as ADC-I in the MCC-Appraisement (West), Nayyar Shafiq posted as ADC-III in the Collectorate, Azhar Hussain Merchant posted as ADC-IV in the Collectorate and Naeem Akhtar posted as ADC-V in the Collectorate. However; the vital post of ADC-II is being vacant after the transfer of Farrukh Sajid.

The absence of an ADC was also affecting the routine affairs as the importers and clearing agents facing difficulties in hearing of their cases, because the officers of the Collectorate have already been pre-occupied and rush of work and they are not in the condition to take-up the work of any other officer. On the current situation, the importers and visitors, who came into the Collectorate for hearing of their cases were of the view that the absence of an officer of ADC are creating problems in resolving of their issues. They urged the authorities concerned of FBR to post an ADC as soon as possible, so that the daily affairs of the Collectorate could be streamlined as before.
