Abu Dhabi Business Women Council launches first five-year strategic plan 2015–2019

ABU DHABI: The new plan includes four strategic targets which list seven key indicators, seven strategic programs and 25 strategic projects.

The launch of H.H Sheikha Fatima International Entrepreneurship Award will be amongst the most important projects and initiatives of the ADBWC.

The Abu Dhabi Business Women Council (ADBWC) announced the launch of the council’s first five-year strategic plan 2015 – 2019. This came during the press conference which was held yesterday afternoon at the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry main branch.

Her Excellency Maryam Mohammed Al-Rumaithi, Chairwoman of the Emirates Business Women Council and Chairwoman of the ADBWC, attended the press conference along with Her Excellency Huda Al-Matroushi, Her Excellency Fatima Khamies Al-Maazroui and Her Excellency Salma Al-Muhairi, Members of the Executive Board of the ADBWC; and Mrs. Shafika Al-Ameri, Director of the ADBWC.

At the beginning of the conference, H.E. Al-Rumaithi expressed her appreciation and thanks to Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, the Honorary Chairwoman of the Emirates Business Women Council and the ADBWC, for her continued support for the council since its inauguration in 2001. She emphasized that what has been accomplished so far can be related to the vision of H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bin Mubarak and her wise directions which the ADBWC translated into real work through the executive plans that were executed by the chairwomen and members of the executive board of the council and a real support by the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and then by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Al-Rumaithi also said that the directions of H.H Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak were like a guiding light for the council and that the support of the Chairman and the Board Members of the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry helped in the continuity of the council and in supporting the march of Emirati women in the economic sector of Abu Dhabi.

The Chairwoman stated that since its inauguration in 2001, the ADBWC achieved many goals which were targeted by the Executive Board of the council in its previous cycles. She pointed to the high increase in the number of licenses owned by women entrepreneurs and businesswomen in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi from 1,800 licenses to 6,000 ones by the end of 2014. The council also provides specialized services contributed to enhancing the role of Emirati women in supporting the comprehensive and sustainable economic and social development process in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Al-Rumaithi noted that the new strategy of the council includes 4 strategic goals. The first goal states that women are to take part in business entrepreneurship in a way that ensures increasing her presence according to the latest developments and best practices, whereas the second strategic goal aims at proper investment for the capabilities of working women from the comfort of their homes in different fields and in a way that ensures their integration with the local economy of the emirate.

The third strategy focuses on establishing an active economy that ensures women’s contribution to all the sectors of the private businesses, and the fourth strategy focuses on benefiting from the cumulative experience of the council to ensure constant growth for its businesses and services as per to the competitive developments in the job market.

Al-Rumaithi added that in order to execute the plan, the council placed 7 strategic programs represented in spreading and enhancing the culture of women entrepreneurship, enhancing the culture of creativity and innovation by women, increasing her role in the private sector, preserving the sustainability of her businesses, establishing comprehensive business incubators in order to increase the role of these incubators in supporting the concept of entrepreneurship, in addition to organizing the practice of working women within home licenses and integrating them with the systems of private businesses, contributing to increasing the participation of Emirati women in the job market of the private sector and building and developing the human, financial, technical and media capabilities of the council and establishing strategic partnerships.

H.E. Al-Rumaithi remarked that the strategic plan leans on the provisions of the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 as well as the strategic plan of the Abu Dhabi Chamber.

She explained that the strategic plan included four strategic targets which list seven key indicators, seven strategic programs, 25 strategic projects and 44 projects performance indicators.

In regard to the projects and strategic initiatives of the plan, Al-Rumaithi said that these projects and plans will focus on installing an electronic gate which would include all the available opportunities, training women how to benefit from these opportunities, organizing awareness campaigns to spread and improve the culture of entrepreneurship according to the best practices on the local, regional and international levels, as well as including a number of activities such as training programs, specialized habilitation and developing the capabilities and skills of women in entrepreneurship.

She also noted that the launch of H.H Sheikha Fatima International Entrepreneurship Award will be amongst the most important projects and initiatives which the council will be working on as well as preparing a national strategy to enable women economically in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in cooperation and partnership of the establishments of the public and private sectors. The council will also work on launching a comprehensive and innovative incubator in order to increase the awareness of women in the importance of adopting private innovative projects and in a way that contributes to increasing the number of Emirati businesswomen and entrepreneurs in Abu Dhabi.
