ISLAMABAD: The accountability court on Tuesday allowed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to sell off the assets of former finance minister Ishaq Dar.

Accountability Judge Muhammad Bashir announced this verdict on a plea of the Bureau seeking court permission to auction off the seized assets of the PML-N leader who has been declared proclaimed offender in the assets case.

Ishaq Dar is facing charges of accumulating assets beyond known sources of income.

The judge held that the provincial government has authority to either auction the assets or keep them with itself.

A day earlier, the accountability court reserved its verdict after a NAB prosecutor submitted details of the assets of the absconding accused.

According to NAB, Dar has three flats in Dubai, a house in Lahore’s Gulberg, four plots in Islamabad and one luxury car. The PML-N leader is also a shareholder in three companies based in Dubai, while his wife owns six cars in Pakistan.

The prosecutor had contended that the accused is obliged by law to contact within six months of the seizure of his assets. If no objection is raised by the accused within the given time, then the property is sold, he added. He said Dar has not yet raised any objection to the assets having been seized.
