Accused booked in tax evasion moves SHC for protective bail

KARACHI: Shabbir Hussain son of Qurban Ali has filed an application in the Sindh High Court (SHC), seeking protective bail. He was booked in tax and duty evasion case of Rs 33.5 million.

According to details, counsel for the applicant stated that his client is ready to face trail, however, he has apprehension of arrest. Therefore, the court may grant him interim bail on his furnishing solvent surety to the satisfaction of this court and restrain the customs authorities from arresting him.

According to the prosecution, during the investigation, it was established that the registered person has adjusted inadmissible input taxes and has never supplied goods to M/s King International. By declaring fake bank accounts and issuing fake sales tax invoices of Rs 195,336,984, and he has deprived the national exchequer of Rs 33.5 million.

A case was registered against the accused persons namely Mushtaq Masih, Aness Elahi, Faisal Elahi, Shaikh Zahid Iqbal Sehgal allies Biloo and others under section 2 (37) 2 (9) 2 (14) (a) 3, 6, 4, 8 (1) (a) & (d) 8A, 22(1) 23 (1) 25, 26 (1) and 73 of the Sales Tax Act, 1990 punishable under section 33 ibid.
