Achieve your target or be ready for action, excise secretary warns officials

LAHORE: Stern action will be taken against the excise officials who will not achieve their targets for the property tax recovery, said Excise and Taxation Secretary Khalid Masood Chaudhry.

During a meeting held on Tuesday chaired by Chaudhry, it was decided that directors would be responsible for the shortfall in the recovery of their fields concerned. He said directors would be made officials on special duty if they would not achieve their revenue target.

Chaudhry said stern action would be taken against the field staff, especially inspectors. “Sincerity with the work is only way to achieve the target of property tax.” he said.

The Excise and Taxation Department has sent a summary to Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to provide a five-percent discount on property tax for defaulters, but no decision has been taken so far.

The department has so far not received any reply from the Chief Minister’s Office.The Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has faced a huge revenue shortfall in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2014-15.
