Action against 14 E&T officers for wrong property notices

LAHORE: Departmental proceedings have been started against three excise and taxation officers while 11 excise inspectors have been suspended for sending wrong property tax notices  to the taxpayers.

Excise and Taxation Director Lahore region Akram Ashraf  Gondal who was appreciated in directors conference by Punjab Finance  Minister Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman for achieving the highest revenue during  first quarter of the current year, has decided to take action against officials following the complaints of sending property tax notices with more than 50  percent increase to the public.

Source concerned told that lists of the wrong doers were being prepared and strict action was being taken against them.  The E&T directors started the  investigations and directed to suspend the officers who were found  guilty in complaints of over-billing.

It is pertinent to mention that the government made only 50 percent increase  in property tax in current year, while some officials sent property tax  notices to public with more than 50 percent increase so that they can mint money from the public. Following the complaints, provincial government directed  the department to take strict actions against the black sheep.
