Activities at Karachi & Qasim Ports

KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 180,011 tonnes of cargo comprising 143,711 tonnes of import cargo and 36,300 tonnes of export cargo including 7,462 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargos of 143,711 tonnes comprised of 56,323 tonnes of containerised cargo; 25,560 tonnes of bulk cargo and 61,828 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargos of 36,300 tonnes comprised of 33,730 tonnes of containerised cargo; 690 tonnes of bulk cargo and 1,880 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 7,462 containers comprising of 4,021 containers import and 3,441 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 1,684 of 20’s and 935 40’s loaded while 393 of 20’s and 37 of 40’s empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 825 of 20’s and 593 of 40’s loaded containers while 236 of 20’s and 597 of 40’s empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were six ships namely Seaspan Yangtze, OOCL California, Maersk Salina, AS Aries, Zi Jing Song and Global Effort carrying containers and wheat respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were two vessels viz. MOL Gateway and Cosco Thailand carrying containers currently at the berths.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 160,680 tonnes comprising 136,675 tonnes of import cargo and 24,005 tonnes of export cargo including 2,949 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 136,675 tonnes includes 7,800 tonnes of LNG; 71,623 tonnes of coal; 1,100 tonnes of LPG; 2,110 tonnes of project cargo; 5,003 tonnes of canola seeds and 49,039 tonnes of containerised cargo.

The total export cargo of 24,005 tonnes includes 11,389 tonnes of cement and 12,616 tonnes of containerised cargo. As many as 2,949 containers comprising of 2,285 containers import and 664 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.

There was one ship namely Amadecus carrying canola seeds sailed out to sea on Friday morning, while five more ships namely Tucapel, AS Aries, Red Fin, Alani and Serene Juniper carrying containers, coal and chemical respectively are expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of eleven vessels were occupied berths to load/offload containers, general cargo, coal, cement, canola seeds, LPG, LNG and palm oil respectively at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

As many as nine vessels viz. Maersk Salina, Thor Madoc, Marlin-V, Equinox Dawn, Crimson Kingdom, Hong Dai, Malhari, Onaiza and BW Panthar respectively carrying containers, coal, soyabean, chemical, LNG and diesel oil respectively were at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were five vessels viz. Maersk Salina, Thor Madoc, Crimson Kingdom, Gas Icon and Onaiza carrying containers, coal, soyabean, LPG and LNG respectively expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Pakistan International Bulk Terminal, Grains and Furtilizer Terminal, SSGC LPG Terminal and Engro Elengy Terminal respectively on Friday. There are two ships namely Diyala and Safmarine Nyassa carrying containers due to arrive on Saturday.
