PESHAWAR: A delegation of Asian Development Bank (ADB) has visited Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and offered the provincial government technical and financial assistance for investment in power sector.
The KP government has initiated work on 356 mini micro hydropower projects, which would be based on Pakistan’s first Result-Based Landing (RBL) technology.
Foreign mission comprised of Korean, Australian, Vietnamese, Philippines and Pakistani investors led by program manager Adnan Tareen who visited Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO). Secretary Energy & Power, Engineer Naeem Khan was also present on the occasion.
PEDO Chief Executive Officer Akbar Ayub Khan briefed the ADB mission about the ongoing and upcoming planned hydropower projects in KP and informed that provincial government is engaged in implementation of energy action in order to utilize maximum power potential existing in the province. He stated that 356 mini micro hydropower projects are being developed in those areas where people are deprived of blessing of electricity.
ADB mission applauded the PEDO/KP’s government plan for the implementation of 356 mini micro hydropower projects and planned to introduce RBL technology in order to complete these projects within shortest time period.
Moreover, the bank will also invest for the development of high capacity power projects in the province with the cooperation of PEDO. Foreign investors’ mission hailed the efforts of PEDO’s CEO Akbar Ayub khan and planned to invest in power sector in order to pull the country out of dire energy crisis. Meanwhile, ADB mission will re-visit soon and finalize the plan of action with PEDO for implementation of hydropower projects in KP.
