Additional Collector Asma declares seizure of NDP vehicle legal

FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Additional Collector Asma Hameed issued an Order-in-Original (ONO) in favour of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation while deciding a case of non-duty paid Toyota Vitz car.

As per details, Customs Intelligence team received information through deputy director Rana Irfan Shouqat regarding the movement of smuggled vehicle. The team intercepted a used Toyota Vitz car bearing registration number UU-562 Islamabad model 2005 and asked owner of the vehicle who identified as Akash Akbar to show documents regarding legal import of the car.

The owner has failed to produce any documents regarding legal possession of the Toyota Vitz car, therefore the officials impounded the vehicle under Section 2(s) and 16 of the Customs Act 1969.

Later the Faisalabad Intelligence team sent its chassis for forensic test. The report clarified that present chassis number is not original as it is tempered with. The officials sent the case to the Customs Adjudication for further legal action.

However, no one appeared to defend the case from respondent side and no any written reply was submitted before the adjudication. While Intelligence Officer Mansoor Nasir appeared from the Prosecution side and asserted that the seized vehicle fell under the ambit of Section 2(s) of the Customs Act 1969.

Therefore Additional Collector Adjudication Asma Hameed has issued ONO in favour of the Customs Intelligence and ordered to impound the Toyota Vitz car under Section 156(1) 89(i) of the Customs Act, 1969.
