Additional Collector Beelam issues notice to owner of non-duty paid vehicle

FAISALABAD: Customs Adjudication Additional Collector Beelam-ur-Ramzan has issued a show-cause notice to an accused who is involved in smuggling of imported Toyota Land Cruiser.

Sources told Customs Today that Sargodha Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) impounded the said vehicle with registration No: LHH-7904 (Lahore) during an anti-smuggling operation near Khiyam Hotal chowk, district Sargodha. During the checking, the ASO team intercepted the vehicle of which owner introduced himself as Qaleem Raza.

The officials asked the owner to prove the legal status of the vehicle but he failed, so they impounded it under Section 156 (I) of the Customs Act-1969 and served a contravention notice on the accused and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication. The Customs Adjudication also issued a notice to accused on the violation of Section 10-A. 89(1) and 156(1) of the Customs Act-1969.

However, the adjudication has directed the accused to file reply by the given time. The case of vehicle may be decided in the next hearing, due to be held on 27-2-2017.
