Additional Collector Fayyaz Anwar declares seizure Toyota Hilux Surf legal‏

MULTAN: Additional Collector Customs Adjudication Fayyaz Anwar has declared the seizure of Toyota Hilux Surf legal after completion of hearing.

According to details, the Customs Adjudication issued Order-in-Original (ONO) No.92/2016 through which the Customs confiscated a non-customs paid duty vehicle Toyota Hilux Surf bearing registration number WAG /721/Quetta after completion of legal proceeding.

Additional Director Customs Intelligence and Investigation Nisar Ahmad received information that smugglers were trying to transport the said vehicle from Karachi to Jhang under the garb of fake documents.

A Customs Field Intelligence Unit of Sadiqabad intercepted Toyota Hilux Surf on dated 30 /12 /2015 and driver of the vehicle was asked to show possession/import of the said  vehicle. The driver Khalid Riaz son of Muhammad Buksh resident of Chak no 1 Shorkot Jhang failed to produce any legal documents of the said vehicle which proved their possession and Customs team have detained vehicle in this regard for verification of its registration.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan range office have done chemical treatment of chassis number of Toyota Hilux Surf  bearing registration number WAG- 712/WAG /Quetta. It was revealed during chemical treatment of the vehicle that its chassis frame has been cut and another iron piece iron piece bearing registration KZN 185-0009635C has been welded on its chassis number.

During the course of investigation neither the owner nor the driver could produce documents showing legal import or lawful possession of the vehicle under section 26 of the customs act 1969.

However during adjudication proceedings of the no one appeared from neither the respondents nor any written reply was submitted to the show cause. Thus the chemical report of the seized vehicle levelled in the show cause stand established.

Additional Collector Fayaz Anwar Customs Adjudication have issued the direction in the ONO for the confiscation of seized Toyota Hilux Surf out rightly in terms of clause 89 (i)  of section 156(I) of the customs act 1969 .
