ADC Samiul Haq fines importer for using wrong PCT with connivance of clearing agent Javed Umar

KARACHI: Issuing Order-in-Original (ONO), Customs Collectorate (Adjudication-II) Additional Collector Samiul Haq fined Sheikh Tube Mills Rs 100,000 for involvement in misdeclaration of alloy sheet.

Customs Department sources said, according to ONO, Sheikh Tube Mills with the connivance of clearing agent Javed Umar Enterprises used wrong PTC and tried to clear alloy sheet coil instead of alloy sheet. Due to this action, national exchequer suffered losses worth Rs 839,000. Sources said the importer had showed the consignment in PTC 7225-9200 which has a five percent customs duty, however, the consignment was cleared under HS Code 7210-6190 with a 10 percent customs duty applicable. Sheikh Tube Mills was also found involved in under-voicing during clearance of the consignment. The importer had tried to clear the consignment against $0.575 per kg. On the other hand, its actual value was $0.733 per kg. Sources said the importer had also tried to clear non-alloy sheet instead of alloy sheet in May.
