Adjudication Collector Raja Tahir summons owners of seized items, driver

FAISALABAD: Collectorate of Customs Adjudication Collector Raja Thair Majeed served a show cause notice on a driver involved in transporting the alleged smuggled items and also summoned the owners of the seized goods.

As per details, the collector has issued notice to Tanveer Ahmed son of Ghulam Rasool, a suspected driver, who was riding the Mazda mini truck bearing Registration No LES-11-6067 loaded with smuggled items, including 60 cartons of cigarettes, 50 packs of Indian gutka, 1000 tin boxes of Indian origin LK chewing tobacco, 50 packs of tara filter khaini, 140 packs of playing cards, 4 rolls of curtain cloth, 6 rolls of velvet cloth, 10 rolls of aluminum foil paper, 11,000 pieces of cigarette lighter. The adjudication authority also directed the driver to inform other actual owners of the goods to appear before the court.

The Faisalabad Customs Intelligence and Investigation intercepted the said truck and recovered the items. The driver was asked to show any documents regarding the lawful possession and legal import of said good but he could not do the same. Therefore, the recovered foreign origin goods were taken into custody and brought to the Faisalabad Customs office.

The notice charged with the violation of Section 168 of the Customs Act, 1969, Section 16, 18 of the Custom Act 1969, Section 3 of Sales Tax Act, 1990, Section 148 of Income Tax Ordinance punishable under Section 3(1)3 of Import and Export Act 1950.

The owners of the goods named Haji Ahsan Karim son of Noor Mohammed, an owner of aluminum foil, Nazar Mohammed Khan son of khuday Nazar Khan, an owner of velvet cloth, Mohammed Irfan son of Mohammed Anwar, an owner of curtain cloth and Zohaib Ishtiaq son of Mohammed Ishtiaq, an owner of cigarettes lighters were also directed to appear before the authority on behalf of the goods. However, the adjudication has directed the accused persons to file their replies by given time, which is also last date of hearing.
