Adjudication-I sets May 26 as date of hearing for PTCL tax evasion case

KARACHI: Customs Adjudication-I Karachi Collector Farid Iqbal Qureshi has set May 26 as date of hearing for the Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited’s (PTCL) tax evasion case lodged by customs.

The Adjudication-I has issued notice to all the parties concerned including the PTCL, M/s Rayan, the clearing agent and the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation-FBR Karachi for attending the hearing on May 26.

Sources confirmed that it would be the last hearing into the case and afterwards the Collector Customs Adjudication-I, Farid Iqbal Qureshi would issue Order-in Original (ONO) into the said tax evasion case.

They further disclosed that the para-wise comments of the PTCL tax evasion case have been finalized by the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I.

It is pertinent to mention here that it is the sixth hearing into the case which is going to hold on May 26.

It may be mentioned here that it is also sixth tax evasion case against the PTCL made by the customs in which it was allegedly found involve in importing telecommunication equipment by violating the Customs Act, 1969.

Before this case, five tax evasion cases linked with the PTCL have been decided in both the Collectorates of Customs Adjudication I and II.

Recently, the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I Karachi has decided a tax evasion case linked with the PTCL in which the competent authority ordered the accused party i.e. PTCL to deposit the differential amount along with the imposed fine/penalty.
