Adobe distributes $1,000 MasterCard for all employees to enhance productivity

WASHINGTON: Many big companies strive to bring the creativity out of their employees in order to make them more productive. For example, Google has spent millions on creating a work environment to enhance employees’ productivity.

Adobe is also following suit and has launched an initiative called KickStart. The company has given red boxes to thousands of its employees inside which is a candy bar, Starbucks gift card, and a debit MasterCard pre-loaded with $1,000.

Adobe believes that the initiative will foster the culture of innovation within the business. The company is giving its employees the “trust” in hopes that it will make them more innovative. It will allow them to work on their own ideas, which could be an app or an enhancement to an existing Adobe product.

But the best part of the scheme is that the company will not keep a check where its employees spend their money. They are allowed to use the money on whatever they want. They may use it to fund their projects or use it to buy concert tickets and shop for their families. It is practically a $1,000 reward — for free, to thousands of employees.

All of Adobe employees are allowed to take part in the scheme irrespective of their levels or posts in the organization. They don’t have to be an engineer or IT expert. They don’t even have to have an idea in order to request their Kickbox.

Adobe’s employees are responsive in pitching their ideas. So far the ideas include a method to bring paper homework assignments to the digital world, and a way to create video stories that sync images and music with mood and emotion.
