ISLAMABAD: The Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) allowed nine new solar/wind power projects to overcome the energy shortfall.

The 33rd AEDB meeting, chaired by Water and Power Minister Khawaja Asif, said that the new projects worth $1 billion would be made operational by September 2016, thus the wind power projects’ supply to national grid would reach 937MW.

Currently, wind power projects are supplying 255.4MW of electricity to the national grid, according to an official statement.

The new projects would use modern technology and offer lower tariffs compared to previous solar/wind projects, the minister said.

He also dispelled the impression that there was any ban on new solar/wind projects by the government.
