Afghan companies attend carpet exhibition in Germany

KABUL: Ministry of Commerce and Industries said the best Afghan carpets have been displayed in the exhibition where Afghanistan has been given 200 square meters of space to put on display the country’s products.

Eleven important companies have attended this exhibition and they are expected to return with good achievements,” spokesman of the ministry Musafir Qoqandi said.  The Carpet Industry Union said the carpet exporter companies attended at the exhibition will try to sign big contracts with foreign firms.  Our goal from attending this exhibition is to receive big contracts for exporting carpets to Europe and the United States markets in the future,” Mohammad Hadi Farzam, member of Afghan carpet exporters union said. “We will try to find good partners to work with them and export more Afghan carpets to the world markets.” DOMOTEX is one of the biggest exhibition of carpets in the world and is held in Germany every year.  Last year, Afghan carpet producers got second position in the exhibition. Carpet industry owners said this week that their exports have increased despite many hurdles on their way.  Afghanistan’s Carpet Union said at least 700,000 square meters of Afghan carpet was exported in the past 10 months.
