LAHORE: Afghanistan government suspended export of coal to Pakistan via Torkham and asked exporters to export the commodity through Dand Patan, Ghulam Khan and Angoor Ada crossings.
The finance ministry of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan said that the customs officials at Torkham were asked to halt export of coal to Pakistan through Torkham border.
It further reads that Afghan Customs of Dand Patan, Ghulam Khan and Angoor Ada crossings will facilitate the coal export to Pakistan.
Sources did not reveal the cause of restriction, however, exporters of the coal were of the view that because of traffic mess at the crossing, Afghan fruits and vegetables exports were rotten and wasted at the parking lots due to delay in custom clearance process, therefore the Kabul regime took this initiative.
Jamshed Shinwari, an exporter of coal said that an increase in export and import goods have created traffic and clearance problems at the Torkham border. Export of perishable goods has suffered a lot in the slow pace of clearance, he added.
