KABUL: The high economic council has announced that a women’s chamber of commerce and industries will be established in the near future to help the businesswomen expand their economic activities.
Businesswomen have warmly welcomed the initiative, saying the government needs to take more actions to economically empower Afghan women.
The lack of an appropriate strategy for capacity-building among the businesswomen and insufficient support for businesswomen are two main factors which have persuaded the high economic council to establishment a women’s chamber of commerce and industries. Businesswomen have stressed the need for more government support to strengthen women investments in the country.
“The government must work hard to expand the economic empowerment of women and support them for our domestic production to grow,” said an Afghan businesswoman, Maryam Yousufi.
Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI) has said that the government needs to do more to find solutions to the ongoing difficulties facing businesswomen in the financial sectors.
“Our concerns as chamber of commerce and industries raised in meetings of the high economic council is about the future of these institutions. Because in the past we have had very bitter experience from the creation such institutions, because such projects stopped working when they encountered financial difficulties,” said Atiqullah Nusrat, chairman ACCI.
Businesswomen believe that if the government cooperated with them, they could play critical role in the economic development of the country.
