KARACHI: A two-member committee has not yet started inquiry proceedings against Superintendent Preventive Service (SPS) Javed Mughal in his alleged involvement in allowing Afghan Transit Trade (ATT) cargo without Customs checking, Customs Today learnt.

The committee comprising Pakistan Customs officer Nayyar Shafiq, Additional Collector and Asif Ali Abro, Assistant Commissioner, Inland Revenue Services (IRS) has not yet convened its single meeting despite passage of a month. Javed Mughal is presently off-duty from his posting.

When contacted, Additional Collector Nayyar Shafiq informed Customs Today that the committee has asked Javed Mughal for some documents for initiating inquiry against him, but he has failed to produce the same.

ADC Nayyar Shafiq further said that the inquiry body would not take much time as the committee gets the relevant documents from Mughal. He said that the committee would decide the fate of the said case and would complete its inquiry within a week after getting the required documents.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) suspended SPS Najam Hameed, Zarar Bin Azmat and Javed Mughal for their alleged involvement in clearing the Afghan Transit Trade cargo without legal documents.

Subsequently, SPS Najam Hameed moved to Sindh High Court (SHC) against the FBR’s decision in which the Board suspended him without any reason mentioned in the letter. Later, the SHC in its verdict canceled the FBR orders and endorsed the view point of Hameed and ordered him to join his duty with immediate effect. On joining the duty, Hameed was transferred and posted in Multan Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO).
