KABUL: A 400 MW gas-fired plant being built in Turkmenistan will export electricity to energy-starved Afghanistan, according to a report on the Power Engineering International (PEI) website.
In line with an agreement with the Turkmen government, Afghanistan would import power from the plant once it was completed, the report said, calling the accord aimed at pushing the reconstruction of the war-torn country.
The power export to Afghanistan from the Zerger plant in Lebap province is among Ashgabat’s initiatives to boost cooperation with regional countries, according to the report.
A contract for installing the power generation system at the plant has been awarded to the Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS), which will supply three sets of M701 DA gas turbine and generator to the plant.
