AFP arrest 2 Singaporeans for smuggling $520,450 at Adeleide airport

SINGAPORE: Australian Federal Police (AFP) has announced that two Singapore Nationals have appeared before the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday on proceeds of crime charges after they were found to be jointly carrying $520,450 at Adelaide Airport.

The press release said that an AFP Cash and Drug Detector (CADD) dog approached one of the men, 34, in the check-in area on Sunday (4 December). The AFP officers then conducted a search of the man’s luggage and  was found to be carrying $250,000.

A second man, 34, was subsequently identified. His bag was searched and he was also found to be carrying $270,450.

AFP said that both men were arrested and charged with dealing with money suspected of being a proceed of crime, contrary to section 400.9 (1) of the Criminal Code (Cth). It noted that the maximum penalty for this offence is three years imprisonment.

Acting AFP Adelaide Airport Police Commander Gavin Stone said the female cash dog, one of their dogs at Adelaide Airport named Utana, was instrumental in finding this seizure, which is the largest cash seizure detected by dogs.
