AFU collects Rs 2795.47m during May; witnesses shortfall of Rs 602m

KARACHI: The Air Fright Unit (AFU) of Model Customs Collectorate-MCC Preventive has collected total revenue of Rs 2795.47 million altogether in May under different revenue heads, including custom duty, sales tax, additional sales tax, withholding tax and federal excise duty, but witnesses a shortfall of Rs 602.95 million as compare to the previous month revenue collection.

According to the revenue statistics, the Air Freight Unit (AFU) has collected Rs 825.82 million in share of custom duty in May 2015 while it had collected Rs 1035.57 million during April 2015; showing a shortfall of Rs 209.75 million.

The AFU has collected an amount of Rs 1201.47 million in share of sales tax and additional sales tax in the month of May-2015 while it was collected Rs 1689.56 million in the same share of April-2015 with a  shortfall of Rs 488.09 million.

The Air Freight Unit has collected the revenue of Rs 768.08 million in share of withholding tax during the month of May-2015 while it was collected Rs 673.09million in the same share in the month of April-2015; with an increase of Rs 94.99 million.

The AFU has collected a meager amount of Rs 0.10 million in share of federal excise duty in the month of May 2015 while it was collected Rs 0.02 million in the same share in the month of April-2015; with an increase of Rs 0.08 million.

The Chief Collector Enforcement-South Muhammad Nazim Saleem and the Collector-MCC Preventive Syed Muhammad Tariq Huda have expressed their concerns over the shortfall in revenue collection of AFU in the month of May-2015 as compare to the previous month i.e. March-2015.

Both the high officials of Pakistan Customs have directed the authorities concerned at AFU to continue their efforts in order to achieve the revenue collection in all heads.
