AFU recovers evaded tax amounting to Rs 150m from PIA, Shaheen Air

KARACHI: The Air Freight Unit (AFU) has recovered more than Rs 150 million from Pakistan International Airline (PIA) and Shaheen Air, collectively.

According to details, Pakistan Customs’ Air Freight Unit Karachi collected Rs 150 million from Pakistan International Airline (PIA) and Shaheen Air under the head of duty and taxes. According to a source, Pakistan International Airline and Shaheen Air imported engines of aircraft and their spare parts but paid less then what they had to pay in duty and taxes.

Officers at the Air Freight Unit received credible information about the miss-declaration by both the companies. The AFU team examined the consignments again carefully and found that the both organizations had paid less than what they should have paid.

After reexamining the consignments of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) and Shaheen Air the Air Freight Unit Karachi demanded the both organizations for more money in head of taxes.

The Unit was able to recover Rs150 million from both the public sector organization and the private sector organization.
