AFU to block NTN of PIA due to non payment of Rs70m taxes

ISLAMABAD: Air Freight Unit (AFU) Islamabad is considering to block NTN of Pakistan International Airline (PIA) if it failed to deposit Rs70 million in account of Customs Collectorate Islamabad in June of current Financial Year 2016-17.

According to details told by Collector Dr. Arslan that the Collectorate is trying its level best to meet the revised revenue collection target under all head he was adding that all customs stations and department working under umbrella of are working within their capacity to meet the revenue collection target for financial year 2016-17.

He said that Collectorate is going to achieve its assigned revenue collection target for current financial year adding that the upcoming month will be comprises in 20 working days because from 23rd of June the Eid holidays will be started and the business activity at AFU as for as Islamabad Dry port will become slow, practically the Collectorate have 20 day of June to achieve its assigned revised and hard revenue target.

He said that during month of May the Collectorate  hold 4 auctions of confiscated smuggled goods to get more revenue.  He said that during current month Collectorate held three auctions at State Ware House G-12 and the other auction held at State Ware House (SWH) airport Islamabad which earned Rs3.976 million of revenue through open public auction of various confiscated goods held at premises of Air Freight Unit (AFU) building on 18th of May financial year 2016-17.

Dr. Arslan stated that Customs Islamabad had requested to PIA for deposit Rs.70 million shape of pending installments under head of customs duty and sales tax he was adding that if PIA will not deposit its dues within June FY2016-17 it fears that NTN of PIA will be blocked.
