Agri Dept to install drip irrigations system in Multan

MULTAN: The Punjab agriculture department will install drip irrigation system at 200 acres in district Multan, under Punjab Irrigated-Agriculture Productivity Improvement Project (PIPIP) programme.

Drip irrigation system is modern irrigation system for effective use of water and enhance productivity of crops especially orchards, said district officer Farrukh Nadeem while talking to APP.

He said the government would spend 60 percent expenses while farmers would have to pay 40 percent for installation of the system.

In recent past, the Water Management had installed drip irrigation system at 800 acres in the district. Now, the district is producing grapes, leechi and many other fruits due to this system of irrigation.

About criteria for availing facility of drip irrigation system, the DO Water Management Farrukh Nadeem informed that farmers could submit applications with the department. He also urged farmers to come forward to use this modern system as it would help improve yield, lower expenses on irrigation and meet water shortage issues.
