Agri experts ask farmers to start sunflower cultivation

FAISALABAD: The experts of Punjab Agriculture Department have asked the farmers to start sunflower cultivation from January 1 to get optimum yield.

A spokesman of Agriculture department told here on Thursday that the growers of Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Khanewal, Multan, Vehari and Bahawalnagar should cultivate Sunflower from Jan 1-31 while best suitable time for Sunflower cultivation in Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Lodhran, Rajan Pur and Bhakkar is from January 10 to February 10.

Similarly, the farmers of Faisalabad, Jhang, Mianwali, Sargodha, Khushab, Sahiwal and Okara should cultivate sunflower crops from Jan 15 to Feb 15 whereas suitable time for Sialkot, Gujranwala, Lahore, Mandi Bahaud Din, Kasur, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Narowal, Attock, Rawalpindi, Gujrat and Chakwal is from Feb 1 to 25, he added.

He said that the growers should cultivate approved sunflower varieties including Hi-sun-33,Hi-sun-39,Agora-4,NK-278, FH-331, DK-4040, G-101 and 64-A-93 because these varieties are not only disease resistant but also give bumper production.
