KIEV: Agriculture minister Gerry Ritz says the Ukrainian market has opened for Canadian beef from cattle under 30 months, and, ready to eat meat.
Ritz says it is a significant milestone for Canada, following the lifting of Ukraine’s ban on Canadian beef products last year.
Ukraine’s global imports of beef in 2014 were 17 million dollars.
Last week, the Canada-Ukraine free agreement was reached, resulting in the elimination of Ukraine’s tariffs on Canada’s beef, pork, pulses, grains, canola oil, processed foods and animal feed.
Canada exported 35 million dollars worth of farm products last year to Ukraine, and the trade deal is expected to see sales increase almost 20 per-cent.
