KOZHIKODE: The Air Customs Intelligence Wing at Calicut International Airport, Karipur, seized 20 gold biscuits weighing 2.3 kg from three Kasaragod-bound passengers who arrived from the Gulf on different flights on Tuesday.
The seized gold was worth Rs.63.7 lakh. Mohammed Javed, 24, reached Karipur on Air India flight IX 344 from Dubai. Abdul Rahman, 45, arrived on Qatar Airways flight QR 538. Seven gold biscuits apiece were recovered from them. Mohammed Saidu, 47, who came on Oman Air flight WY 291, was detained with six gold biscuits.
The Customs team led by Assistant Commissioners K.K. Subramanian and S.P. Shyamsundar acted on a tip-off. They were assisted by Customs Superintendents G. Balagopal, E.C. Sasidharan, and V.P. Devassi; inspectors Kaustubh Kumar, C. Pradeep Kumar and S.S. Dhillon; and havildars K. Rajeev, C. Mohammed Basheer and K.V. Manoj.
