MIRPUR: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir government has launched food development projects in different parts of the valley including Mirpur and Bhimbher districts in order to cater the local needs of food in AJK, official sources said.

The government had purchased over 22 tons of wheat only from Iftikhar Abad town and earned the profit of over Rs 3.5 million.

The source said that in order to ensure the uninterrupted and bulk supply of flour wheat to the masses in remote areas, the government has established 50 new depots only during last fiscal year. Earlier, only 70 depots were reportedly established in AJK during last six decades.

The sources said that the government was taking all possible steps to ensure the supply of quality wheat flour to the consumers. The sources pointed out that 275,000 tons of flour wheat produced by flour mills of AJK was utilized during last financial year with the cooperation of the food department.

The sources said that during current fiscal year, 300,000 tons of flour wheat would be required for the people across AJK. Referring to the need of wheat flour in far flung areas in AJK, the sources said that the required stock of wheat flour was available for next eight months use.
