SIALKOT: The outstanding arrears of Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) government have now increased up to Rs. 6.5 billion and the AJK government has been reluctant to make early payment of these dues to Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) despite the passage of five consecutive years.
According to the officials concerned, Gepco had been supplying electricity to AJK government for the last five years and it had sent the electricity bills to the AJK government for payment at the rate of Rs 13 per unit. The AJK government was reluctant to clear the payment, as it was intending to pay the dues as per the ratio of Rs 3 per unit against Gepco’s rate of Rs 13 per unit.
The tariff dispute could not be resolved between the Gepco and the AJK government despite the passage of the several years.
Earlier, the federal government had also formulated a special committee to resolve the crucial issue of recovery of the prolonged outstanding arrears from the government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) for Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco).
According to the Gepco officials, the committee had to resolve the issue of the per unit rate of electricity between Gepco and AJK government. But the tariff has not yet been resolved between Gepco and AJK government.
The Gepco had been supplying electricity to as many eleven feeders in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) since 2007.
The AJK government had been lying a big defaulter of Rs. 6.5 billion payable to the Gepco for the last several years. Despite, the repeated notices issued by the Gepco for the payment of these outstanding dues, the AJK government has not yet paid this huge amount to Gepco due to some unknown reasons.
