LONDON: Aldi’s sales rose 17.3 per cent year-on-year and the sales of Lidl were up 13.8 per cent in the 12 weeks to January 31, compared with an increase of only 0.7 per cent for all supermarket sales.
Continental discount supermarkets had started slowly in Britain, but they have gained ground relentlessly and now are responsible for more than 10 per cent of the country’s grocery sales.
