ALGIERS: The annual inflation rate stood at 5.5% in July 2016, the National Statistics Office told APS. The annual inflation rate in July 2016 represents the evolution of the consumer price index from August 2015 to July 2016, compared with the period from August 2014 to July 2015. The annual variation in consumer prices rose by 8.1% last July, compared with the same month a year earlier.
Concerning the monthly evolution, which is the raw consumer price index in July 2016 compared with June 2016, it stood at -0.5%, i.e. a negative variation close to that recorded in July 2015 compared with June 2015 (-0.7%). This monthly fall, which occurs after the increase recorded during the last four months, resulted mainly in a 1.4% drop in food prices, driven by 2.9% drop in fresh agricultural products and 0,2% rise in processed foodstuffs.
Fresh products’ prices drop in July 2016 compared with June 2016, except chicken (+23.51%), eggs (+12.13%) and fresh vegetables (+1.45%). The prices of fresh fruits declined (-32.36%), as well as fresh fish (-7.27%), sheep meat (-0.62%) and beef (-0.49%).
