ALGIERS: Algeria has suspended import duties on animal feed, including maize and soya, until the end of this year to keep its domestic market stable after a rise in world market prices, an official involved in the decision said on Thursday.
“The exemption from customs duties has come into force and will continue to be implemented until Dec. 31,” the official told Reuters, asking not to be named.
Algeria imports almost all of its soya and maize needs.
It imported 1.16 million tonnes of maize during the first quarter of 2015, up from 801,197 tonnes a year earlier, according to official figures. No data is available for soya purchases.
