ALGIERS: Imports of pharmaceutical products reached $127.92 million in January 2016 against $133.78 million in January 2015, drop by 4.38%, Algerian Customs told APS. The imported quantities experienced a significant drop from 2,676.73 tons in January 2015 to 1,696.2 tons in January 2016 (-36.63%), said the National Centre for Statistics and Data Processing (CNIS).
Medicines for human use recorded a drop in both value and quantity, representing 90% of the bill and 84.5% of the volume of the overall imports of pharmaceutical products in January.
The imported quantities of products for vet medicine and Para-pharmaceutical products have significantly increased while the bill dropped for products for vet medicine and an increase for Para-pharmaceutical products.
The bill of medicines for human use amounted to $115.02 million in January 2016 against $127.37 million in January 2015 (-9.7%), while that quantities totalled 1,434.92 tons against 2,530.5 tons (-43.3%).
Concerning medicines for vet use, their imports reached $1.73 million (64.1 tons) against $2.32 million (32.92 tons), a drop by 25.63% in sum and an increase of 94.7% in quantity.
