KARACHI: The Customs authorities have linked all the consignment moving to and from export processing zones (EPZ) with tracking devices.

An export processing zone is a Customs area where one is allowed to import plant, machinery, equipment and material for the manufacture of export goods under security, without payment of duty.

Sources said M/s TPL Trekker is assigned to affix the vehicles and containers with the tracking devices. PRAL would provide TPL with the required data. This development would help a lot curtailing revenue leakage and pilferage of goods meant to be used in EPZs.

It is worth mentioning here that there have been several reports that machinery and raw material imported duty-free for EPZs were pilfered into the market resulting in huge losses to the national economy.

Moreover, the transshipment consignments must also be affixed with tracking devices to thwart multi-billion rupees scams such as replacement of TP cargo.
