Alternative Energy Development Board starts inquiry into illegal clearance of solar panels

KARACHI: Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) of the Ministry of Power and Energy has started its departmental inquiry against those officials who were involved in issuance of fake AEDB letters for the import of solar panels, it is learnt here.

The sources informed Customs Today that the Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB) has conducted an inquiry against the then caretaker AEDB director Imtiaz Hussain, assistant director Suresh and other officials who were deputed in the office.

The sources said that the authorities concerned of AEDB have taken the said initiative after the inquiry called by the Customs authorities in which they summoned the officers of AEDB to join inquiry.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Investigation Officer (IO) Shair Khan into his investigation report requested the authorities concerned to include the AEDB officials into the investigation for getting appropriate results.

However, the AEDB authorities decided that they conduct inquiry on their own and will take disciplinary action against those officials who found involved into the issuance of fake letter.

It may be mention here that the AEDB authorities also suspended caretaker director Imtiaz Hussain and assistant director Suresh till the inquiry of the case is not being completed.

It is pertinent to mention here that the case was unearthed by the Appraising Intelligence Branch (AIB) of MCC-Appraisement (West) when it found that the importer M/s Right way Trading Company was used fake NOC letter in importation of around six consignments of solar panels amounting to Rs6million approximately.

It may also be mentioned here that the authorities concerned of Pakistan Customs have already made contravention report against the importer M/s Right way Trading Company and sent to the Collectorate of Customs Adjudication-I for further legal proceedings.
