NEW YORK: In order to shake some things up Amazon have now come up with Fire OS 5, as reported by Android Police.
Google recently unveiled their latest iteration of Android, the Android M Developer Preview. But, Amazon will be basing its latest OS on the current Android Lollipop OS. Using the codebase of Android, Amazon expects a wider user acceptance and more popularity among the already crowded mobile space.
Amazon based the previous version of its Fire OS on the KitKat OS when Google had already unveiled the Lollipop OS. And with the advent of Android M Developer Preview, they are using Android Lollipop as a base for the Fire OS. By the time Amazon releases the Fire OS 5 for consumers, Google would have most likely have released the Android M OS.
Developers can try out the latest preview build of the Fire OS 5 from today. The regular consumers of Amazon devices will have to wait until later this year for the official final release of Fire OS 5. The Fire OS 5 Developer Preview can be installed on a Fire HD 6 or Fire HD 7 tablet. If you’re a developer but don’t have an Amazon device, you can avail a special discount of $50 on the Fire HD 7 tablet. Registered developers can download the Fire OS 5 preview here.
