BRUSSELS: ANA is set to launch a new direct route between Tokyo Narita and Brussels.

An exact launch date has not been given, but the Japanese airline confirmed the service is slated to start with its 2015 winter schedule in late October.

The new route will complement ANA’s existing European services, which it operates out of either Tokyo Narita or Haneda, to London, Paris Frankfurt, Munich and Düsseldorf.

The direct service to Brussels is a first. Travellers from Japan normally have to transit through various European gateways in order to get to the city.

ANA customers, for instance, rely on the carrier’s ties with Star Alliance partner Lufthansa to transit towards Brussels.

Arnaud Feist, chief executive of Brussels Airport Company, said: “We are thrilled to welcome ANA to the family of airlines flying to Brussels, one of Europe’s major hubs, which lacked a direct flight from Japan. The new route will provide improved convenience for both European and Japanese travellers.”
