ANF arrests 176 proclaimed offenders in five months

RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has arrested 176 proclaimed offenders in last 5 months during a special drive across the country.

The ANF spokesman said the force is also making hard efforts to nab the other proclaimed offenders. According to him, ANF, in compliance to directives of ministry of interior, has granted top priority to nab proclaimed offenders in its ground operations.

In this regard, 2 special conferences of ANF operational heads have already been taken place at ANF headquarter, which aimed for focused execution, effective coordination and periodic monitoring in accomplishment of the mission. Initially, performance in apprehension of proclaimed offenders was not considered satisfactory, he said.

Resultantly DG ANF dedicated Special Teams along with allocation of requisite resources, specific for the task. Intelligence Unit was dove-tailed with enforcement groups at regional level.

Daily progress report for conduct of operations and its achievements were regularly submitted at night and in the morning to keep ANF headquarter abreast with all developments.

To further augment the mission, the DG ANF made special visits to regional directorates all over Pakistan for having one-to-one interaction with commanders as well as ground teams, the spokesman said.

All these endeavours concluded in apprehension of 176 proclaimed offenders in 5 months, out of which 25 were arrested from KP, 19 from North Region, 63 from Punjab, 30 from Sindh and 39 from Balochistan, he informed. It is first ever special drive in ANF history.

It has not only brought the criminals to justice, but has also proved useful in creating a caution in general about drug crimes. Furthering the efforts in proclaimed offenders campaign, the next ANF commanders conference is planned on October 6, 2016, he said.
