KARACHI: Anti-Narcotics Force has recovered 61.5 kg fine quality heroin being attempted to smuggle abroad and arrested a five member gang in Karachi. The price of the seized drug in international market is Rs 433.5 million approximately.
ANF assisted by Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) received information that a few individuals were trying to smuggle heroin abroad by using innovative concealment methods. Initial ground check revealed suspicious activities. To further authenticate the information, a discrete surveillance of ANF was imposed.
Later on, ANF and Pakistan Rangers conducted a well coordinated raid at a house in Malir City, Karachi and recovered the heavy amount of fine quality heroin. Five persons involved in the crime were arrested at the spot.
Post raid interrogation revealed that the heroin was being tactfully concealed inside onions by making a hole in onions hence creating a cavity in the centre which was quite obvious. Heroin filled capsules were inserted and finally capped by onion covering with glue. The accused also disclosed that onions were also useful in evading the smell of drugs by sniffing dogs.
Initial interrogation revealed that the gang has a history of smuggling narcotics. The revealed innovative method is unique in its own kind and shall help succeed fighting the drug menace. An FIR has been lodged against all the arrested persons at ANF Police Station and further investigations are under process.
