ISLAMABAD: With the aimed to create awareness against the harms of illicit drugs, the Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) has launched an ‘Anti-Drug and Media Campaign’ in the federal capital and all provincial capitals of the country.
In this regard, special drug awareness walks were held at different stations, which included walk from GC University to Istanbul Chowk at Lahore, walk from Agriculture University to University Chowk at Peshawar, walk from Saeedabad Police Training Center Baldia to Graceful Grammar School at Karachi and walk from PTC Chowk Khayaban-e-Iqbal to F-9 Park at Islamabad.
People from different walks of life participated in the events, which mostly included government officials, celebrities, NGOs, media persons, students, teachers, ANF Youth Ambassadors, different LEAs and civil society, ANF spokesman informed yesterday.
As per special instructions of ANF DG Major General Nasir Dilawar Shah HI (M), the awareness campaign at each station was designed with special focus on youth. Efforts were made to attract maximum participation of students, teachers and parents so as to propagate their role in respective capacities.
In order to make it a persuasive drive, effective positioning of ANF Youth Ambassadors was ensured.
Respective ANF force commanders and selected public representatives delivered lectures at the terminal-point of walk at respective stations.
All the walk sites displayed informational/awareness banners and streamers. Drug awareness handouts were also distributed among participants. Special arrangements were also made to distribute awareness brochures at drug infested sites of the cities.
ANF has increased its efforts towards drug demand reduction activities. The existing 145-bed drug addiction treatment facilities at Islamabad, Quetta and Karachi, are being expanded to 173 beds at Karachi, Sukkur and Peshawar.
