ANF role in rehabilitation of addicts lauded

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat ul Ebad Khan has lauded the role of Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) towards checking the spread of the menace of narcotics and rehabilitation of the addicts.

He was speaking at a ceremony organized by the ANF to destroy the confiscated narcotics. Ebad praised the contributions of the ANF to curb the spear of narcotics and fostering awareness about the harmful effects of this very menace. He stressed that it was essential to prevent our younger generation from addition.

The Governor was of the view that record seizure of narcotics in an year by the ANF speaks of the performance of this very organization. He also appreciated the law enforcement agencies (LEAs) for the restoration of law and order in the province.

Secretary Narcotics Division, Ejaz Ahmed Khan, said that according to an estimate there are 6.7 million addicts in Pakistan. He said that the ANF would continue its efforts for a drug-free Pakistan.

Director General ANF, Maj. Gen. Nasir Dilawar, said that the ANF has initiated special drive in the academic institutions to apprise the youngsters of harmful effects of use of drugs. He said that the ANF has acquired modern equipment as well as 44 trained sniffing dogs.

Force Commander ANF Sindh, Brig. Noorul Hassan, said that last year 231 cases were detected, 16 tons of narcotics recovered and 247 accused arrested.

The Governor distributed commendation certificates among the officials on the occasion.
