ANF seizes 1.43-tonne narcotics worth Rs 7.5b

RAWALPINDI: The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has seized Rs 7.5 billion worth of 1.43-tonne narcotics and arrested 14 suspected drug traffickers, including a foreigner, while five vehicles were also impounded in 15 operations conducted across the country.

The seized drugs include 1.09-tonne heroin, 313.6kg hashish and 29.6kg opium. The operations were carried out at Islamabad, Attock, Lahore, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Hyderabad, Karachi, Quetta and Pishin.

According to details, ANF Quetta in an intelligence led operation conducted at Killi Kamalo, Tehsil Barshore, district Pishin, seized 1.089-tonne heroin. ANF Quetta also recovered 20kg hashish from an abandoned car, parked at Qambrani road, Quetta.

ANF Rawalpindi Airport team arrested a passenger identified as Shahzaib resident of Mardan at Benazir International Airport and recovered 1.01kg heroin concealed in a hotpot. Two-kg opium and three-kg hashish was also recovered from possession of local drug supplier who was netted near Iqbal Shaheed Toll Plaza, G.T. Road, Attock. ANF Rawalpindi in another operation conducted raid near district headquarters hospital, Attock city and seized one-kg hashish. ANF Lahore while acting on a tip-off, intercepted a Toyota XLI Car near Total Petrol Pump, Khanpur Road, Rahim Yar Khan and recovered 27.6kg opium. Two persons, Manzoor Ahmed and Sajid Ali, both r/o Nankana Sahib were also arrested.

In another operation, ANF Lahore Airport team arrested a Nigerian national namely Charlis Obikee at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore who confessed of having ingested heroin filled capsules.

Yet in another operation, ANF Lahore Airport Team arrested Italy bound passenger namely Maroof Hussain r/o Gujrat at Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore and recovered three-kg heroin. In fourth operation, ANF Lahore intercepted a parcel containing ladies bags at office of a courier service company based at Lahore and seized 780 gram heroin.

In fifth operation, ANF Lahore seized a Canadian bound parcel at office of the courier service company and recovered 510 gram heroin concealed inside a jacket. ANF Lahore Road Check team arrested a drug carrier identified as Muhammad Rafique r/o Dara Adam Khel and recovered 500 grams hashish from his possession. ANF Peshawar arrested a passenger namely Luqman Khan r/o Kohat at Peshawar Airport, while he was boarding for Dubai and recovered 140 grams hashish.

In another operation, ANF Peshawar recovered 2.4kg hashish from possession of an accused identified as Zar Baz Khan r/o Khyber Agency, while he was travelling in a passenger van near main Motorway Toll Plaza, Peshawar.

ANF Karachi recovered 285.6kg hashish from improvised cavities of a bus near Karachi Toll plaza, Super Highway and arrested two persons. In another operation, ANF Karachi arrested a local drug peddler namely Allah Bux and recovered 1.1kg hashish and 50 grams heroin.

All the cases have been registered at the respective ANF police stations, while further investigations are underway.
