ANF seizes 1.95 ton opium, 7.2kg charas, 1.8kg cocaine worth Rs3,897m

ISLAMABAD: Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) has seized Rs3,897 million worth of drugs including 1.9 ton opium, 1.8kg cocaine and 7.2kg charas during four different operations in Islamabad, Attock, Rawalpindi and Pishin, and arrested seven alleged drug traffickers, besides confiscating two vehicles.

An ANF Rawalpindi team during routine checking at Benazir Bhutto International Airport, Islamabad, detained a Filipino woman Emelita Escala Hernandez and recovered 1.8kg cocaine from her possession. Cocaine was tactfully concealed in packing of metallic glasses. She arrived in Islamabad from Brazil via Doha by Qatar Airline Flight No QA-614.

It is pertinent to mention that cocaine is a drug used in high society and is slowly sneaking into Pakistani society. Being an expensive drug its one dose normally costs Rs8,000 to 12,000, while 1kg cocaine is worth Rs6.48 million.

ANF Balochistan carried out a successful operation and seized 1,940kg opium from the area of Killi Qasim, Tehsil Bostan, District Pishin. The drug was placed at a cache site, outside populated area and was concealed in the cuttings of mountainous terrain. As per initial reports, the consignment was placed for handing over from one narcotics-gang to another and was to be transported to coastal area through RCD Highway.

Meanwhile, an ANF Rawalpindi team busted a gang of drug traffickers operating in Rawalpindi and arrested five of its members. The gang was involved in peddling of drugs, particularly, supply of charas in the city. The operation resulted in recovery of 7.2kg charas.

As per details, ANF Rawalpindi acting upon information, intercepted a Toyota Corolla car registeration No. HD-878 near Tarnol Railway Gate, Islamabad and recovered 4.8kg charas concealed in the vehicle. Two drug smugglers Munir Ahmed and Muhammad Adnan along with a drug recipient Ajab Gul were taken into custody on the spot.

On pointing of the arrested persons, another operation was conducted near Shamsabad, Murre Road, in which a drug trafficker Noor Muhammad along with a local recipient namely Shabeer was arrested with 2.4kg charas.

In another raid, the ANF recovered 1.5kg opium from personal possession of an accused Muhammad Altaf Khan r/o District Attock. He was arrested at Dhullian Cowk, Pindi Gheb, District Attock.

Cases have been registered against all the arrested accused under CNS Act 1997 and further investigations are under progress.
