ANF seizes 85kg drugs worth Rs233 million

ISLAMABAD: The Anti-Narcotics Force has recovered 85kg of drugs worth Rs233 million in the international market in 20 operations carried out across the country.

According to details the force arrested 24 offenders, including three females, involved in drug trafficking and seized six vehicles. The seized drugs included 28.3kg of heroin, 50 kg of hashish, 2.42 kg of amphetamine, 2 kg of methamphetamine and 2.02 kg of opium.

The ANF Rawalpindi apprehended two drug peddlers identified as Muhammad Bashir and Muhammad Riaz, who were residents of Attock, and recovered 5kg hashish from them. They were arrested while they were travelling on a motorcycle near the Abbotabad Mor on GT Road.

In another operation, force’s Rawalpindi wing on a tip-off raided a warehouse in a basement of a local hotel in Sost area of Gilgit and seized 9.6kg of heroin woven into carpets. A suspect identified as Muhammad Akram, resident of Rawalpindi, was also arrested during the raid. As per initial reports, the heroin was intended to be transported abroad. Separately, ANF Rawalpindi recovered 800g of heroin which was concealed in two stools headed for UK.

Separately, ANF Lahore arrested two female drug carriers, identified as Roohi Banu and Mahraja Bibi, residents of Peshawar, and recovered 2kg of heroin from their possession. They were arrested from the Bund Road of Lahore.

In another operation, ANF Lahore intercepted a car in Johar Town and recovered 5kg hashish which was concealed in secret cavities of the car. The operation also resulted in the arrest of two persons identified as Anwar Gul and Rafaqat Ali.

The ANF Lahore intercepted a Canada intended parcel at an office of a courier service company based at MM Alam Road, Gulberg-II, Lahore and recovered 200grammes of heroin concealed inside books.

In the fourth operation, ANF Lahore on a tip-off conducted a search operation in Faisalabad and arrested Shoukat Ali, Muhammad Aslam and Qasim Khan who were engaged in a drug transaction. During the raid the force recovered 8.4kg of hashish and 1kg of opium from their possession. The operation also led to seizure of a car and a motorcycle being used by the accused.

Meanwhile, ANF Peshawar stopped a suspected van and seized 9.6kg of hashish during search of the vehicle. The drug was concealed in secret cavities of the car. Two persons on board identified as Kher Ullah and Nadeem Khan were apprehended.

In another operation, ANF Peshawar’s airport team arrested a foreign bound passenger identified as Rashad Gul, resident of Hangu, and recovered 1.18kg amphetamine concealed in his trolley bag. The accused was boarding for Jeddah by PIA flight.

The ANF Karachi in its operations seized a parcel containing a pair of ladies sandal and recovered 494g of heroin concealed inside the flip-flops. The parcel was being dispatched to the Netherlands through a courier service.

In another operation, ANF Karachi’s airport team arrested Gul Rehman from the Jinnah International Airport and recovered 780g of heroin concealed in his trolley bag. The accused was boarding for Jeddah through a Saudi airline.

Meanwhile, ANF Quetta, while acting on a tip-off, intercepted a car in Mastung district and recovered 14.5kg of heroin and 900g of hashish during a search of the vehicle. Three persons on board identified as Syed Abdul Hadi, Muhammad Aslam, and Najeebullah were arrested on the spot.

All cases have been registered at respective ANF police stations and further investigations are underway.
